Welcome to the Smart Hockey Video Evaluation Page!

The Injury Prevention Research Office is currently conducting a one year evaluation of a hockey concussion prevention video, called Smart Hockey.

The Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation has funded the project to evaluate the Smart Hockey video among Atom and Bantam AA and house league divisions in the Greater Toronto Area. The project will also assess coach, player, parent and hockey official’s perspectives, how these relate to injury prevention in hockey.

During the 2001 – 2002 hockey season, a pilot project was done to lay the groundwork for this study. It evaluated the effectiveness of the Smart Hockey video in increasing Atom A hockey players’ knowledge of concussion mechanisms and symptoms. These preliminary findings indicated that more extensive work was required in the evaluation of the video.
